The Puget Sound Stormwater Strategic Initiative Lead (SIL) has two open Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to support the development of stormwater parks and climate resilient stormwater planning, open now through February 12, 2024.

The full solicitation and application details for these RFPs are available on the Stormwater SIL’s RFP page. With both funding opportunities, we are excited to invest in foundational planning, capacity building, and community-driven work to build and support sustainable stormwater infrastructure for Puget Sound’s future.

Accelerate the Distribution and Effectiveness of Stormwater Parks

Available funding: Up to $1,000,000 total investment, up to $100,000 per award.

This investment is intended to help communities jumpstart the development of new stormwater parks, a widely recognized solution for improving water quality and flow at the source of stormwater runoff. Stormwater parks are multiple-benefit facilities that can effectively treat stormwater runoff while increasing access to green space, outdoor recreation, and other community priorities. This investment focuses on increasing the distribution and effectiveness of stormwater parks throughout Puget Sound, as well as building capacity in jurisdictions to maintain them. This will lead to improved inundation of non-polluted water into waterways and streams, therefore protecting the species and habitat throughout the reach of the stream while enhancing recreational opportunities for the local communities. Resources from the Puget Sound Regional Council and The Nature Conservancy are available to guide applicants.

Increase Climate Resiliency in Stormwater Management

Available funding: Up to $1,000,000 total investment, up to $250,000 per award.

This investment is focused on supporting stormwater infrastructure analysis, retrofit planning, and program development supporting climate resilience in stormwater management systems. Work funded under this investment will catalyze activities like site scale retrofits to create climate resiliency at lower cost and be nimbler and more adaptable. Infrastructure analysis could include vulnerability, risk, and resiliency for legacy development, new and redevelopment, or protection to address issues including increased precipitation and flooding, water temperature, streamflow quantity and timing, and sea level rise.

For Applicants

Applications are due by 5pm PST on February 12, 2024, with award announcements planned for mid-March. If funds remain after the initial awards are made, applications may be accepted on a rolling basis until May 8, 2024 or until funds are fully allocated. Full application details and requirements are described in the solicitation, linked here.

This opportunity is funded by the EPA Puget Sound Recovery National Program Office.

The Stormwater SIL team will host two online office hours to answer applicant questions and help you prepare the best proposal possible. We encourage first-time and returning applicants to join or to contact the SIL with questions.

The Stormwater SIL’s Puget Sound Geographic Funds through EPA are intended to support creative and catalytic projects that may be challenging to fund through other sources, but have the potential for transformative impact on water quality or stormwater management, either within a specific local community or at the regional level.
