Habitat Strategic Initiative Lead Request for Proposals (RFP)

Habitat SIL Releases September Investment List

The Habitat Strategic Initiative Lead (HSIL) has announced the investment of approximately $8.5 million of EPA Puget Sound Funds into 21 proposals to advance Puget Sound habitat recovery.

The Investment List includes successful proposals in response to the Spring 2024 Request for Proposals to implement the 2022-2026 Action Agenda and Habitat Implementation Strategies.

Investments are distributed across three investment priorities:

  • Increase capacity and workforce development to meet Puget Sound habitat recovery goals (Priority A)
  • Local support for habitat protection, monitoring, and adaptive management (Priority B, RFP in collaboration with Department of Commerce and the Stormwater SIL)
  • New science, synthesis, and analysis for improved protection and restoration of kelp and eelgrass in Puget Sound (Priority C)

The full investment list is available here.

InformATION

HSIL Fall Forum: Planning for sea level rise and climate related hazards to nearshore habitat in Puget Sound

The HSIL Fall Forum took place October 24-25, 2024 in Lynnwood, Washington. The Forum addressed coastal resilience in the face of sea level rise and other coastal hazards, with a specific focus on the protection and restoration of nearshore habitats and the biodiversity they support. Through presentations, panels, and interactive breakout sessions, participants learned about innovative approaches, engaged in policy discussions, and found new collaborators to address the challenges of sea level rise, coastal squeeze, flooding, and erosion. HSIL plans to share workshop presentations and synthesize a report for distribution. For a copy of the program click here.

Reach out to Matthew.Lurie@dfw.wa.gov or Rebecca.Brown@dnr.wa.gov if you have any questions about the Fall Forum and check out a recent blog by the Puget Sound Institute on Strategic Initiative Lead investments in Climate change adaptation and resiliency tools.
