The Gig Harbor Marina and Boatyard was recently awarded Clean Marina certification for improving oil spill response, providing free sewage pumpout service to boaters, and educating boaters about how to prevent oil, sewage, debris and soap from going into the water. Clean Marina Washington is an incentive-based certification program. The National Estuary Program Shellfish Strategic Initiative supports the Clean Marina work by awarding an EPA grant to Puget Soundkeeper Alliance to help improve marine water quality. Gig Harbor Marina and Boatyard is Puget Sound’s 81st Clean Marina certification. This work also supports implementation of a No-Discharge Zone for Puget Sound, another project supported by the NEP Shellfish Strategic Initiative.
Did you know: The Shellfish Strategic Initiative has developed and supports the Shellfish Beds Implementation Strategy which promotes protection and restoration of Shellfish Beds in Puget Sound to improve marine water quality for public health through EPA’s National Estuary Program.
