Following a public comment and external review period, the Habitat Strategic Initiative team is pleased to officially release the Shoreline Armoring Implementation Strategy, which aims to reduce shoreline armoring in Puget Sound. We developed the strategy in partnership with the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, Washington Department of Natural Resources, Puget Sound Partnership, Puget Sound Institute, and an Interdisciplinary Team of experts.

The Habitat Strategic Initiative received comments from 26 individuals or organizations on the Implementation Strategy. Puget Sound Institute and the Puget Sound Partnership’s Science Panel also coordinated an external expert review. A summary of each process, the comments received and responses are available for both the public comments and the expert review.
Next steps
Accelerating progress towards the outcomes identified in the Implementation Strategy requires ongoing and shared commitments by all partners in the Puget Sound region. The Habitat Strategic Initiative identified a number of actions to support through funding, capacity, and communications. We encourage our partners to share your ongoing work and explore what additional 15% you can each contribute towards reducing shoreline armor impacts on Puget Sound. Why 15%?
